Bowling Green loses close game in final seconds

MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State’s Miryne Thomas scored the game-winning basket with eight seconds remaining as the Cardinals edged Bowling Green 81-80 in the Mid-American Conference men’s basketball opener for both teams on Saturday.

Bowling Green (7-5, 0-1 MAC) led 62-53 at the nine-minute mark, but Ball State (6-6, 1-0) was able to mount a rally. A turnover by BGSU’s Myron Gordon with 20 seconds remaining gave the Cardinals possession to eventually set up Thomas’ shot.

Trey Diggs had 18 points on 6-of-10 from 3-point range to lead four BGSU players in double figures.

Daeqwon Plowden had 15 points, Samari Curtis scored 13, and Joe Reece had 10 points.
