Bowling Green hires South Carolina assistant Chmiel as women's basketball coach

BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University has hired South Carolina assistant Fred Chmiel as its women’s basketball coach, the school announced Saturday morning.

Chmiel replaced Robyn Fralick, who recently took over as Michigan State’s head coach after guiding the Falcons for the past five seasons.

Chmiel spent the last eight seasons on South Carolina’s coaching staff under Dawn Staley. The Gamecocks went 247-32 during that span, including NCAA Final Four appearances the last three seasons. South Carolina went 35-2 in the 2021-22 season en route to winning the national title; this season, the Gamecocks went 36-1.
