BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University softball ace Payton Gottshall was named Mid-American Conference pitcher of the year Wednesday afternoon.
She became only the second BGSU pitcher to win the award, joining Liz Vrabel in 2005.
Gottshall concluded the regular season with a 23-10 record with a 1.32 earned-run average. She had career bests in ERA, strikeouts (325), opponents’ batting average (.154), and innings pitched (212 1/3). She ranks 15th nationally in both ERA and strikeouts per seven innings (10.7).
The right-hander threw a perfect game with 15 strikeouts March 5 against Green Bay.
