BGSU's Elzinga wins Michigan women's golf amateur

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Bowling Green State University’s Macie Elzinga claimed the 109th Michigan Women's Amateur Championship on Friday at Eagle Eye Golf Club.

The Falcons player from Byron Center, Mich., defeated Elayna Bowser 2-and-1 in the championship match after winning No. 13 and No. 14 and then maintaining that advantage the rest of the way.

Elzinga finished tied for ninth in in qualifying with a pair of even-par 72s to make the 32-player match play competition.

She defeated Brook Herbstreit 4-and-3, Shannon Kennedy 3-and-2, Kate Brody 2 up, and Elise Fennell 2-and-1 on her way to the championship match.
