BGSU women's basketball hoping experience from loss at No. 4 Iowa pays off

IOWA CITY, Iowa — As Caitlin Clark and her Iowa women’s basketball teammates racked up the points, rebounds, and assists on Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Bowling Green State University gained something that can be just as meaningful down the road.

“Experience,” first-year BGSU coach Fred Chmiel said. “Getting [to] experience not only that, in front of a packed house, playing against a player of that caliber; it’s a great learning tool for our kids.”

The No. 4-ranked and 2023 NCAA runner-up Hawkeyes, with arguably the best player in college basketball in Clark, showcased just how talented and dominant they can be in a 99-65 victory over the Falcons in front of nearly 15,000 fans — one of which was one of the greatest players in WNBA history in Sue Bird, who was sitting courtside.
