DETROIT – The Bowling Green State University hockey team defeated Michigan Tech 4-1 in the championship game of the Great Lakes Invitational played at Little Caesars Arena Tuesday.
The Falcons (10-6-6) claimed their first-ever title in their third appearance in the GLI after beating Michigan 6-4 Monday for the program’s first-ever win in the tournament.
The Huskies moved to 10-8-5 on the season.
Brett D’Andrea gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead after one period when he scored at the 18:17 mark. D’Andrea scored on his 24th birthday as BG skated with a 4-on-3 advantage.
The Huskies tied the game at 1-1 when Jake Lucchini netted a power-play goal at 2:37 of the second period, but the Falcons regained the lead when Connor Ford scored at the 8:04 mark of the period.
