Gareth Southgate has challenged Jermain Defoe to win a place in his World Cup squad and the Bournemouth striker insists he can be England's supersub in Russia.
The 35-year-old defied medics to return from a broken ankle at the weekend, just eight weeks after being told he could face three months on the sidelines.
Defoe was recalled to the England set-up by Southgate last season after a three-year absence but has not appeared since the 2-2 draw against Scotland in June.
He is refusing to give up on his dream of going to this summer's finals, eight years after his only other World Cup in South Africa.
