CLEVELAND — Matt Holliday has a sore back to go along with his aching bat.
New York's slumping slugger was placed on the disabled list Sunday by the Yankees, who are hoping a week off will help his injury and maybe give him a chance to regroup at the plate.
The move with the designated hitter was expected after Holliday tweaked his back while swinging during Friday night's 7-2n loss to the Indians. He didn't play in Saturday's 2-1 win so he could get more treatment and be evaluated by the club's medical staff.
The team described Holliday's injury as a left lumbar strain.
