Jhostynxon Garcia’s MLB debut was one to remember, but not because of something he did.
When the Red Sox rookie took the plate for the second time in his career in Friday’s 1-0 win over the Yankees, a critter wanted to say hi to him. A squirrel ran into Garcia’s right leg as he stepped into the batter’s box.
Garcia didn’t recognize the squirrel, but members of the Yankees did. Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried engaged in a brief staredown with the squirrel as the game was delayed for a moment.
Eventually, Garcia took notice of the squirrel.
