Red Sox outfielders Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu teamed up for one of the more unbelievable catches in recent memory on Wednesday night.
With Boston locked in a 5-5 deadlock with the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh inning, Detroit DH Kerry Carpenter took a fastball from Liam Hendriks and drove it out to right field.
Abreu attempted to time up the catch at the warning track, jumping up in an attempt to snag the ball before it dropped over the fence. Abreu’s outstretched arm managed to prevent a home run by Carpenter — but the ball tipped off his glove and deflected back toward the field.
