Remy diagnosed with recurrence of lung cancer

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Jerry Remy is dealing with a recurrence of lung cancer, NESN announced on Monday.

A popular color analyst for the Red Sox since 1988, Remy is expected to return for his 30th season in the booth.

Remy, 64, will speak to the media Monday afternoon, at which time he will advocate for periodic screenings and checkups.

A native of Somerset, Mass., Remy played for the Red Sox from 1978-84.

Remy was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2008 and had his first relapse in 2013.

He signed a multi-year extension in January.
