Red Sox vs. Blue Jays lineups: You’ll never walk alone (to a three-game winning streak, you’ll have to hit too)

The Red Sox look for their third win in a row behind beleaguered Garrett Richards when they face Trent Thornton and the Blue Jays at Fenway Park (7:10 p.m., NESN) tonight.

If there is a flaw in the otherwise near-perfect mosaic that is the 2021 Red Sox so far, it’s Garrett Richards. As something named Keaton deRocher wrote in these digital pages, Richards needs to continue building his velocity to fully exploit his arsenal,* not unlike an iron needing to be work out the kinks. He’ll be matched by Trent Thornton, who’s a swing reliever/starter making his first start of the year, and who hasn’t thrown more than 34 pitches yet this season, so is perhaps not long for the game, by design.
