Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski delivered the big-ticket item on the team’s hot stove wish list with the acquisition of Chris Sale from the White Sox.
Dombrowski secured the deal with Chicago general manager Rick Hahn on Tuesday at MLB’s winter meetings in National Harbor, Md. The Red Sox dealt Cuban infielder Yoan Moncada, flame-thrower Michael Kopech and prospects Luis Alexander Basabe and Victor Diaz.
Dombrowski’s decision to trade the two top prospects in the Red Sox farm system for Sale drew a favorable response yesterday from the legion of fans who braved the frigid weather to participate in the annual Christmas at Fenway festivities.
