ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- It turns out Eduardo Rodriguez is not the Boston Red Sox's savior.
Nearly one month after being activated from the disabled list and making his season debut, Rodriguez was demoted to Triple-A Pawtucket.
The move came late Monday night after the 25-year-old lefty got lit up for nine runs on 11 hits in 2 2/3 innings of a 13-7 throttling by the Tampa Bay Rays, who averaged 2.6 runs per game in their previous 11 games, all losses.
"Felt like he was back to a place after his start five days ago that would carry him through," Red Sox manager John Farrell said.
