ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- In order to let the players’ “personalities and passions shine,” MLB officially announced Players Weekend to take place on Aug. 25-27.
The uniform rules will be dropped for one weekend and players will wear alternate shirts designed to look like Little League uniforms with their own chosen nicknames on the back.
Among the Red Sox more obvious nicknames include “Mookie” for Mookie Betts, “X” for Xander Bogaerts, “JBJ” for Jackie Bradley Jr. and “Benny” for Andrew Benintendi. Dustin Pedroia will be the “Laser Show,” Mitch Moreland will be “2-bags” and Chris Sale will be “Stickman.
