The Red Sox are reportedly making a change at first base on the verge of a pivotal series against the Yankees.
According to an initial report from Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic (as well as multiple other sources), the Red Sox have designated infielder Abraham Toro for assignment. David Hamilton has been recalled to fill the roster spot, per McCaffrey.
Toro, 28, has accrued a .244/.294/.378 slash line, notching seven home runs in 76 games. He started well enough, with a .271 average and a .739 OPS in the first half of the season.
