SARASOTA, Fla. — Blake Swihart made the trip 72 miles north to Ed Smith Stadium yesterday to make his seventh start of the spring, this time as the Red Sox designated hitter.
The switch-hitter was 2-for-3 with a two-run double while showing impressive speed on the bases during the Sox’ 10-8 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
After a single his second time up, Swihart tried stealing second on a line drive to center field, then was able to sprint back in time to avoid getting doubled off by Adam Jones. He then used his legs to avoid a double play on a groundball to first.
