Well, it happened again — or at least it looks like it’s about to happen soon. The Red Sox have announced that Garrett Whitlock has suffered ligament damage in his elbow. He’s traveling to Alabama this week to receive further consultation, then it’s possible that he will need his second Tommy John surgery, putting him on the shelf for the rest of this season and probably the first half of 2025, at the very least. Given Whitlock’s extensive injury history — not to mention his history of success as a reliever — there are already plenty of Red Sox fans insisting that this injury is somehow the fault of Craig Breslow and the Red Sox front office for making Whitlock a starter.
