It was a rough day for Shepherd, though it’s very clear that he was not helped out much by his defense. Still, with the Red Sox suffering injury after injury in the major-league rotation and rolling through relievers, they could use everyone in Pawtucket firing on all cylinders. This was Shepherd’s first outing in 13 days, and there was some clear rust. That said, he’s actually been somewhere between bad and just okay in each of his last four starts, and he could really use a big outing in his next start.
