BOSTON -- In searching for a new bench coach, the Boston Red Sox turned up almost a mirror image of departed Torey Lovullo.
Gary DiSarcina had a big-league career as an infielder and was teammates with manager John Farrell, just like Lovullo. DiSarcina managed in the Red Sox's farm system, for Triple-A Pawtucket, and worked with several players on the current major-league roster, just like Lovullo. And before returning to the Red Sox, DiSarcina left to be a first-base coach on a major-league staff, just like Lovullo.
Naturally, then, DiSarcina will be the choice to replace Lovullo as Farrell's right-hand man in the dugout, the Red Sox announced Friday.
