Red Sox DFA Edward Mujica

Finally, the Red Sox have decided to designate Edward Mujica for assignment.

The 10-year veteran reliever was 1-1 with a 4.61 ERA out of the bullpen this year. The journey-man Venezuelan had played for five teams in 10 years.

An All-Star in 2013, Mujica never came back to form after that season. In his tenure with Boston, he was 3-5 with a 4.03 ERA in 75 games.

The right-hander is known for his once great split-fingered fastball. After the 2013 season, the Red Sox inked Mujica to a two-year $9.5 contract to be a backup closer for the aging Koji Uehara.
