This was the first meeting of 2024 between the Red Sox and Rays. The Sox have the better record this year (by a little bit) but they are 2-12 against the Rays since the beginning of 2023. Alas, this wasn’t the night they were going to begin to repair that deficit.
Both teams scored three runs in the first inning—dramatically so for the Sox, as Tyler O’Neill answered the three Tampa Bay runs all on his own, with a three-run home run.
On the defensive side of the first inning, Ceddanne Rafaela contributed his own theatrics.
