BOSTON -- To be honest, Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell says, he has no earthly idea how or even when portly Pablo Sandoval strained his left shoulder, an injury that landed the seldom-used third baseman on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday.
If he's being more honest, Farrell has even less of a clue about how the Red Sox's version of Panda Watch will end.
Indeed, there are more questions than answers surrounding Sandoval's saga, and they go far beyond merely the circumstances that left him unable to raise his left arm when he awoke Wednesday and caused him to be removed from the roster before he saw a team doctor or received a detailed diagnosis.
