Price as ace turns rotation around

Even in absentia, David Price was ever-present at the Red Sox’ recent “Winter Weekend” festivities.

Price couldn’t make it to Foxwoods Resort and Casino, his plane grounded in Nashville, Tenn., by a snowstorm. But there was president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, defending the decision to not upgrade the starting outfield by pointing to the $217 million addition of the best free agent pitcher on the market. A little while later, fellow starter Rick Porcello gushed about what a good teammate Price was after being dealt to the Detroit Tigers at the trade deadline in 2014.

And then along came manager John Farrell to admit, at last, how much the Sox missed having a proven ace at the front of the rotation last season.
