My father’s Red Sox never won a World Series.
In that sense, they’ve been banished to the same historic dustbin as the 2016 presidential campaigns of Little Marco, Lyin’ Ted and Jeb!
My father’s Red Sox were certified by August Angst and September Swoons. Their only October Surprise was, “How are they going to blow it this time?” Forty-one years ago today, my father’s Red Sox pulled off their greatest feat in becoming the only team ever to win and then lose a World Series game in the same day. Thank you, Carlton Fisk and Jim Burton.
