The evolution of Jarren Duran has been a fascinating one.
The seventh round draft pick in 2018 was originally graded for his speed primarily. But by the time he came up to the Majors, some scouts had given him a 55 grade on his hit tool to go with his 70 speed, projecting him to be a big extra-bases hitter who put bat to ball with line-drive contact and created havoc on the base paths. As MLB’s scouting report said of his potential, “[there was] a wide divergence in his possible outcomes, from a solid centerfield regular to an extra outfielder with one better-than-average tool.
