Hideo Nomo, the first Japanese star on the Red Sox, was always on the verge of stardom. Nomo first played in the majors in 1995, leading the league in strikeouts, was second in the NL with a 2.54 ERA. He started the all-star game and struck out 3 of the 6 batters he faced. He also had 4 complete games and 3 shutouts. He was Rookie of the Year and fourth in Cy Young selection. The following year he threw a no-hitter at Coors Field, known as a hitters park.
