BOSTON -- Catcher Ryan Hanigan is likely to be activated before Tuesday's game against the Rangers, and all signs point to Sandy Leon remaining as the backup catcher.
That would leave Christian Vazquez -- who still has Minor League options -- as the odd man out.
It was telling that Leon started Monday's game instead of Vazquez, who had caught Rick Porcello's previous 15 starts.
Red Sox manager John Farrell was asked his reason for that alignment.
"Sandy's performance," said Farrell. "Pretty clear. He's swinging the bat well, doing a good job behind the plate.
