Dustin Pedroia sent for X-rays after hit by pitch in Houston

HOUSTON – In the moment, it was Mookie Betts who had the Red Sox holding their breath. But, in the end, it was Dustin Pedroia going for X-rays.

Pedroia was hit by a pitch in the back of his rib cage near the left lat muscle. He stayed in initially, but Josh Rutledge replaced him at second base in the ninth inning.

“It continued to swell and tighten up, so he was losing a lot of range of motion with the left arm,” manager John Farrell said. “So, we had to get him off his feet. But we’ll have a better read once he goes through the exam here at the local hospital.
