ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Dustin Pedroia is back, and he’s playing a new position.
Pedroia was activated off the disabled list on Tuesday after missing the minimum of 10 days and Red Sox manager John Farrell wasted no time in getting Pedroia back into the lineup as the No. 2 hitter for tonight's series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays.
But instead of playing second base, Pedroia is the designated hitter. It’s just the second time this season and fifth time in his career that Pedroia is starting a game at DH. He’s batting .500 in those games.
