Doug Fister accustomed to playoff pressure

Less than four months ago, Doug Fister was pitching for the Salt Lake City Bees, the Los Angeles Angels’ Triple-A affiliate, just hoping to get another shot in the big leagues.

When the Angels decided not to add him to their major league roster by June 21, the 33-year-old had an option to be released from his contract. He took it, but his future was just as uncertain.

Today seemed nearly impossible. Fister takes the Fenway Park mound in Game 3 of the American League Division Series against the Houston Astros, the man in charge of keeping the Red Sox’ season alive.
