John Farrell inserted Deven Marrero into yesterday’s lineup because of his glove.
The Red Sox then reaped the benefits of his bat, too.
After the team’s third base woes continued in Friday night’s loss, Farrell turned to the sure-handed Marrero to stop the bleeding.
But little did the manager know Marrero would make an impact on both sides of the ball. In addition to a pair of impressive defensive plays, Marrero produced the biggest hit of the game — a two-run double in the fifth inning — that proved to be the game-winner in yesterday’s 6-3 win against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.
