Here is the full statement David Ortiz made in the video announcing his plans to retire after the 2016 season:
"I thought a lot about it and for every single one of us, we run out of time at some point. Life is based on different chapters and I think I am ready to experience the next one in my life.
"I picked this day to announce that for next season I'm gonna be done with my career and playing baseball.
"I would like people to remember me as a guy who is just part of the family, a guy who is trying to do the best not just only on the field but with everyone around him.
