Cubs' Arrieta to miss final regular-season start

CHICAGO — Jake Arrieta will miss his final regular-season start for the Chicago Cubs to rest before the playoffs.

Manager Joe Maddon said the 2015 NL Cy Young Award winner will skip his turn for the defending World Series champions when they wrap up the regular season against Cincinnati on Sunday.

"He's not pitching on Sunday," Maddon said after Friday's 5-4 win over the Reds. "He's not. That's official."

Mike Montgomery will start Sunday.

Maddon said Arrieta will pitch in simulated games next week and that the Cubs will determine his next start based on how he responds.
