Clay Buchholz was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on Tuesday and won’t be eligible to pitch again for the Red Sox until at least Sept. 9, but manager John Farrell said it would be advantageous for all parties for Buchholz to get on the mound before the season ends.
Buchholz, who felt his right elbow stiffen up in a July 10 game against the Yankees, is dealing with a flexor strain and received a PRP injection to help the tendon heal. Buchholz said recently that if anything happens to the tendon, it could put his ulnar collateral ligament at risk, threatening Buchholz’s long-term health.
