Those Red Sox fans lucky enough to meet Dave Henderson will tell you he was a warm, gracious man whose blinding smile covered several area codes.

Those who didn’t have that pleasure, but who did experience the ecstasy and the agony of 1986, will tell you how the man called Hendu saved the season, if only for a while.

It was, after all, Dave Henderson who belted that two-run homer off the California Angels’ Donnie Moore with two outs in the top of the ninth inning of Game 5 of the American League Championship Series. The Sox were trailing by a run, and the Angels were one pitch away from the World Series.
