4 things to know about new Red Sox pitcher Sonny Gray

The Red Sox made their first major offseason move Tuesday, trading for righthanded pitcher Sonny Gray from the Cardinals.

In return for Gray, 36, the Sox sent righthander Richard Fitts and minor league lefthander Brandon Clarke to St. Louis.

Gray, who played college baseball at Vanderbilt and was selected in the first round of the 2011 draft by the Oakland A’s, has played 13 seasons in the big leagues across five teams.

He went 14-8 with a 4.28 ERA with a 27 percent strikeout rate and 5 percent walk rate over 180u2154 innings for the Cardinals last year.
