Report: Red Sox Have Declined "A Couple" Cole Hamels Trade Proposals By The Phillies

In this Red Sox news update, the Boston Red Sox are reportedly in the cross-hairs of the Philadelphia Phillies in their attempts to trade away pitcher Cole Hamels and his massive contract.

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, "look for the Phillies to reopen trade talks with the Red Sox on Cole Hamels. The Sox have shot down a couple of proposals already."

The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly asking for a huge return in exchange for Hamels, and it's likely that the Red Sox are unwilling to part with what the Phillies are currently asking for.

As Bill Baer of NBC's Hardball Talk reports, "the Phillies are officially buying into the idea of a rebuild and Hamels represents an efficient way for them to restock their minor league system quickly. But, as expected, GM Ruben Amaro wants “at least three top prospects” for his ace."

Hamels is entering the third year of a six-year, $144 million contract extension that he inked back in July of 2012. He is still owed $96 million of the balance on that deal.
