CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Mitch Benson stopped 39 of the 40 Friar shots he faced as Boston College skated to a 1-1 Hockey East tie with No. 10 Providence on Friday night at Kelley Rink. PC earned an extra league point by winning the shootout.
Rookie Cutter Gauthier netted his team-high eighth goal of the season for the Eagles, who moved to 5-5-3 overall and 4-3-2 in Hockey East.
Gauthier handed the Eagles a 1-0 lead at 13:49 of the first period. Just 20 seconds into BC's first power play of the night, Eamon Powell set up Gauthier in the right circle for a heavy one-timer and the rookie snuck the shot past Philip Svedeback at the near post.
