AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The end of the bench can be a lonely place. Knowing you’re unlikely to see the floor can make it hard to stay focused. At the same time, if your minutes are unpredictable, it can be hard to maintain any sort of rhythm.
Sometimes, your equity in the game plan is tied to having six fouls to burn.
Wednesday night in Detroit, it was smoke ‘em if you got ‘em for Tyler Zeller and Jonas Jerebko. The Celtics fell to the Pistons, 119-116, so there wasn’t much to be happy about, but for the Celtics’ under-utilized reserves, if nothing else, it felt good to contribute meaningful minutes.
