Number 34 is heading to the rafters in TD Garden.
The Celtics intend to retire Paul Pierce’s jersey on Feb. 11 after a game against the Cavaliers. That’s a Sunday afternoon contest scheduled for 3:30 p.m. that will be televised nationally on ABC.
“I will always be grateful for the sacrifices Paul made to help the Celtics be great,” said Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge. “His love for the game was contagious and his talents and hard work were legendary. He was one of the greatest players of his era.”
Pierce will be the 22nd player to have his number retired by the Celtics.
