Marcus Smart's thumb injury adds to large list of Celtics ailing

Someone recently cracked that the Celtics will finish out the regular season by conscripting their G-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws.

At roughly the same time the team learned that Daniel Theis is likely lost for the rest of the season with a torn meniscus in his left knee, Marcus Smart underwent tests at New England Baptist Hospital this morning to determine the degree of tendon or ligament damage in his sprained right thumb. Smart is now seeking a second opinion.

The Celtics guard is expected to miss an unspecified amount of time as the injury’s severity is determined, with surgery conceivably an option.
