Celtics guard Marcus Smart was a popular name in trade talks ahead of this year’s trade deadline. While he wasn’t dealt and reportedly received assurance from Danny Ainge that he wouldn’t get traded, Smart still prepared for such a possibility.
Speaking to reporters for the first time since the trade deadline, Smart shared what he was thinking in the days leading up to Thursday.
“I think anytime you hear your name in trade talks you prepare for the worst,” Smart said following the Celtics’ win over the Thunder on Saturday. “You pray for the best, but prepare for the worst.
