Kyrie Irving ready to return after painful face injury

NEW YORK – Kyrie Irving went through this morning’s shootaround without complications, and as a result said he plans to return to action tonight against the Nets wearing a protective mask.

The Celtics point guard suffered a minor facial fracture under his right eye as the result of a collision with the elbow of teammate Aron Baynes on Nov. 10 and missed a Nov. 12 win over Toronto.

The fracture was minor, until Irving actually felt the pain from another moment of inadvertent contact, while he was putting his daughter to bed the night of the injury.
