Former Celtic explains why he spurned rival franchise last season

Daniel Theis started last season with the New Orleans Pelicans. The former Boston Celtics center appeared in 38 games, including nine starts. However, at the trade deadline, he got rerouted to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

They proceeded to waive Theis. That opened the door for him to sign with the New York Knicks. However, he instead opted to join AS Monaco.

"I could have gone to the Knicks, for example, but it was more for insurance that Mitchell Robinson came back from the long injury," Theis shared on the Euro Insiders podcast. "Talked to [head coach Tom] Thibodeau and he said, 'Yeah, you will be an insurance in case he can't play.
