Once again, the Celtics gave up a big quarter defensively, allowing the Wizards to score 37 points in the first quarter. They were getting outworked early, allowing 4 offensive rebounds for 13 second-chance points, as well as fouling 7 times, which led to 10 attempted free throws.

Jaylen Brown kept the game in the balance early, scoring 16 of the Celtics 26 points in the first. The jump shot was not falling early once again, leading to a stagnant offense.
