Celtics waive JD Davison: The Celtics waived guard JD Davison on Thursday in the latest cost-cutting move to avoid one of the more intense aspects of the league’s luxury tax.
Davison, 22, was a second-round pick in 2022 out of Alabama. Despite becoming a central figure for the Maine Celtics — winning G League MVP in the most recent season — he was unable to find a consistent spot with the NBA-level squad. Davison played in 36 games over the course of three seasons with the Celtics, averaging 1.9 points.
Though the Celtics reportedly picked up his contract option in June, the deal was non-guaranteed.
