Isaiah Thomas Ruled Out For Rest Of Playoffs

The Boston Celtics' rough Eastern Conference Series just got worse. The Celtics announced Saturday that Thomas is done for the rest of the playoffs with a hip injury. Thomas has battled the injury since mid-March when it caused him to miss two games. He then further injured it against the Washington Wizards in Game 6 of that series. It was injured yet again in against the Cavs in Game 2 and he sat out the second half.

"Isaiah has worked tirelessly to manage this injury since it first occurred," Celtics Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian McKeon said. "The swelling increased during the first two games against Cleveland, and in order to avoid more significant long-term damage to his hip, we could no longer allow him to continue."

The injury ends a season that has featured perhaps the highest of highs and lowest of lows for Thomas. He was named second-team All-NBA and managed to get the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals. However, he also dealt with the death of his sister, Chyna, in a car crash in April.

With Thomas out, the Celtics will likely start Marcus Smart at point guard. The Celtics are down 2-0 to the Cavs after a pair of blowout losses.
