Shouldn't the Celtics Be Mad at Ray Allen?

NBA free agency is in full swing, and there are constant major stories to report on. One of these is Ray Allen's free agency. It appears that Ray Allen is flirting with the Miami Heat.

Now I know that it is FREE AGENCY, meaning that the players have the right to be free and sign with whatever team they want, but still, does it not rub you the wrong way that Allen is talking with his team's biggest rival?

Allen was traded to the Celtics in the summer of 2007, and has been synonymous with The Big Three since joining the Celts. You would think that an NBA title and 5 seasons with the same core group would equate to some loyalty, right?

As if 5 seasons and a championship with the same group of guys weren't good enough reasons to stay together, The Big Three became even tighter when LeBron took his talents to South Beach. For the last 2 years, the Celtics and the Heat have been the biggest rivals in the NBA. The two Eastern Conference foes have squared off in several epic battles and flat out don't like each other. Battles such as these should bring Allen even closer to his Celtics teammates, and should have helped him build up a burning hate for the Heat.

But now that Allen is a free agent, it seems to me that he is committing an unforgivable sin that is going unnoticed.

Is Kevin Garnett not pissed at this disloyalty by Allen?

Does Paul Pierce not care that Allen, someone who Pierce went to battle with for the last 5 years, is now flirting with their biggest rival?

Allen is in foul territory here. Like I said, it is free agency. The Heat do have a better chance to win another championship. They are probably offering Allen a tad bit better money.

Those facts should be irrelevant.

There is no way that Allen can feel good about himself if he betrays the Celts and rides LeBron's coattails to a championship. He has made all the money he will ever need. A couple hundred thousand in the last contract he will ever get shouldn't mean anything to Allen.

Maybe this is the old school way to think, maybe the new NBA is all about talent joining talent, but I know if I were a Celtic, I'd be pissed at Ray Allen.
