Celtics News: Boston Expected To Make Restricted Free-Agent Offer To Kawhi Leonard

The Boston Celtics have cleared a lot of cap space and are hoping to bring in a couple of marquee free agents this offseason, and they apparently have their eyes focused on Kawhi Leonard.

Even though Leonard is a restricted free agent, meaning the Spurs can match any offer he gets on the open market, Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe says the Celtics will aggressively pursue him:

Kawhi Leonard said he is 100 percent healthy again, giving the Spurs their most versatile player back for the stretch run. Leonard will be a restricted free agent this summer and will receive his share of offer sheets, likely including one from the Celtics. Boston coach Brad Stevens gushed about Leonard’s defensive prowess.

Leonard wanted to work out an extension with the Spurs before the season started, but San Antonio was unwilling to offer him a max contract. Boston seems willing to do that, and it'll be up to the Spurs to match.
